The Cape Outback in a Nutshell
The Cape Outback is one of the most exciting mountain bike stage races in South Africa. The route traverses 400km from Stilbaai to Stanford in the Western Cape, South Africa. There are four point-to-point stages through some of the most scenic natural areas that South Africa offers. The terrain, the route and the race format combines the excitement of a mountain bike stage race with the vibe of an expedition.
The route: The route traverses approximately 400km's through the rugged and scenic regions of the Western Cape known as the Hessequa, Cape-Agulhas and Overberg. The region, carved up by many rivers, is home to the southernmost tip of Africa, rolling coastal fynbos plains, vast protected wilderness areas, unforgiving mountains and most importantly, unexplored mountain bike trails that runs through the region like veins through your body. The teams: Riders take part in teams of two or as solo riders. Riders will enjoy the benefits of a full service package. This includes three delicious meals a day, tented accommodation in the race villages, an official race tog bag, a bag transfer service, a complimentary bike wash at the end of each stage and more.

The race villages: Each night of the race is spent in different race villages. These villages have all the facilities necessary to cater for tired riders after a long day on the bike. It includes the Helderberg Cycle World Tech Zone with professional bike services, a complimentary bike wash and a secure bike park. The Duesouth Recovery Zone has a dedicated team of professional masseuses. Riders will also find a vibey entertainment area and off course the tent village.

Supporter passports: Supporter passports allow the supporters of riders to join in the vibe and excitement of the Cape Outback. Passport holders will enjoy access to all the race villages and its facilities and will also enjoy the same catering as the riders. Passport holders supply their own accommodation and transport.

The online entry system: Entries can only be done online and through the official Cape Outback website. Click on Register to ride! and follow the instructions. You will be diverted to the Quicket secure website. Payments can be made electronic fund transfers (EFT) or credit card. Any additional services such as massages, transfers shuttles and supporter passports must also be booked through this entry system.
The FTT Position Placement System: The Cape Outback is not a timed event. Position placement is determined by a unique and simple points system called the FTT-system. There will be a cut-off time for every stage. Riders finishing all four stages within the cut-off time, will be awarded the Cape Outback Finishers Medal. There are team categories for men, ladies, mixed and veterans as well as solo categories for men, ladies and veterans. In the end, however, it's all about that Finishers Medal.
