6. Technical back-up... check!
A warm welcome to Petie Viljoen and his team from Helderberg Cycle World to the Cape Outback family. The very competent and friendly team from Helderberg Cycle World will be responsible for the workshop services of the 2010 Cape Outback MTB Expedition.
In Petie's own words:
Helderberg Cycle World is the official supplier of technical bike services to the Cape Outback MTB Expedition. We will have a full team of qualified mechanics at the expedition village every night, and will be fully equipped to provide technical support for the duration of the expedition. This will include technical support at a water point during each day's stage.
You are welcome to contact us in advance to book a full service package at a cost of R1 375 for your bike, which will be payable in advance, but will include all labour costs associated with providing you with a clean, mechanically sound bicycle at the start of each day.
You may also bring your bike to us during the expedition if it needs repair on an ad-hoc basis (i.e. you are looking after your bike yourself). You will be charged for labour and spares, and the rates will be the same as if you brought the bike to us at the shop itself. We will be carrying spares for most of the popular bike brands as well as gears, tyres and group sets. We can not however guarantee that we will be able to have a particular spare part on hand during the expedition.
Payments can be made by means of credit card. Should your bike be equipped with older gears, brakes, rear shocks etc, kindly e-mail them to ascertain beforehand what the availability of your brand of spares is.
Being a stage expedition, the Cape Outback MTB Expedition is sure to put your equipment through some real tests. To ensure that your bike is up to the task before you start the race, have it serviced by a reputable dealer no later than 2 weeks before the start. That will allow time to have the shocks serviced if necessary, and to iron out any small items that need adjustment.
